The morning light is shinning into your bedroom but you still don’t feel the inclination or desire to get up. You lay there awake. It’s not your concern of commuting that keeps you in bed, or the complete dislike of your boss, as a matter of fact, you are your own boss and you love what you do. Or do you? You embarked on your business venture because there was nothing else in life you could possibly see yourself doing but after almost a year of hard work, continuous networking, piled-up paper work and countless efforts with no real pay off; you find yourself unmotivated and stuck in bed. Why bother getting out of bed? Will it actually make a difference today? You start questioning yourself and your decisions.
I can’t say for sure, but it’s possible that every entrepreneur who has embarked on pursuing their dreams has had a similar morning. Here is the morning of a smart entrepreneur who has a coach. The morning light shins into his bedroom and before he can wonder what the day holds the phone rings; it’s his coach. It’s time to set his intentions, agenda and goals for the day in order to ensure his success and the success of his business. Our smart entrepreneur gets up and accomplishes the many tasks he knows will get him closer to being one of the few small business owners who runs and operates a profitable business. He knows that his coach keeps him accountable and focused, assists in setting appropriate goals and provides him with encouragement and support.
Here’s a brief look at the top three reasons for an entrepreneur to get a coach:
1.) Accountability and Focus
Many new entrepreneurs (especially solo-entrepreneurs) lack one or both (accountability and focus) but not necessarily on purpose. People don’t realize once you become self-employed you really do become your own boss, which means no one is holding you accountable to what you need to do and accomplish in order to succeed and make money.
For every entrepreneur there are a variety of enjoyable and motivating aspects to their businesses and some other aspects they rather avoid like the plague, most of which are very critical to the running of a business. This is where a business coach will really make a difference. Your coach becomes the person that keeps you accountable to what needs to get done and focused on your priorities. Your coach does not become a “boss figure” but rather they install structures to help ensure actions, development and results.
2.) Setting goals
Setting professional and personal goals is a more involved process then what many fully acknowledge when they set new goals, which is why they often fail to meet their goals. Setting inappropriate and risky goals can easily overwhelm and discourage entrepreneurs. Coaches are trained to assist clients in setting realistic and achievable goals that are in line with their client’s values, integrity and strength which is essential for the establishment and growth of a business.
3.) Support and Encouragement
Another truth to being an entrepreneur is being often times all alone on a road of adversity, challenges and glory; being a sole operator of big dreams with the weight of the world on your shoulders. Support, acknowledgement and encouragement are essential to the human spirit and key to maintaining motivation and inspiration. Your coach will be a source of great support, a person who knows and understands your undertakings, and a person who will celebrate your victories with you and uphold your vision for you when things are difficult. Your coach will be there to acknowledge and witness your hard work, efforts and success.
Don’t wait until that morning you can’t get out of bed to get yourself a business coach.
